Welcome Run for the Stars Participants and Supporters
As mayor and on behalf of the City of Wheaton, it is my pleasure to extend warmest greetings to the participants and supporters of the 7th annual Run For The Stars 5k.
Founded in 2004, the Run For The Stars has grown from modest beginnings into a race run by 343 people from 39 cities and 3 states in 2009. This race attracts corporate sponsors, spectators, contributes to the local economy, and benefits the Stars disability ministry at College Church.
I would like to thank each sponsor for their ongoing support of this great event. The race also depends on the volunteers who plan for the event months in advance so it is well-executed on race day. The residents of Wheaton's neighborhoods around the church and Wheaton College can take pride in the role they have played in supporting one of our city's most popular races.
Wheaton has a large runner-friendly environment and hosts 10 running events every year. In fact, the city is tied for 2nd place (after the City of Chicago) for the most running events in the greater Chicago area. Run For The Stars is one of these 10 events.
I wish the best to all participants, and I know that your training and perseverance will guide you through to the finish line. For those visiting Wheaton, we welcome you to our historic yet vibrant community and invite you to discover all that makes Wheaton a great place to live, work, and visit.
Best wishes to all of you for a successful and enjoyable race,
Sincerely,

Michael J. Gresk
Mayor
