FAQ
Is this event a "Run/Walk"?
- Yes, although most people run and only a handful walk. The course will be open for 1 hour to accommodate those who desire to walk. After that, the street barricades will be removed. Walkers can still continue along the sidewalks to the finish line. Per CARA Best Practice Guidelines, a race official will follow the last runner/walker and will be in communication with the race staff to ensure safe completion.
Are dogs and baby strollers permitted?
- Baby strollers and baby joggers are allowed but dogs are not allowed. For safety, those with baby strollers and joggers will begin behind runners at the rear.
Are bicycles, in-line skates, roller skates, and other wheeled vehicles allowed?
My kid(s) are not registered but they want to walk or run with me. Is that ok?
- Sorry – only those who are registered are permitted on the race course.
Where do I park? Will there be enough space?
- The Commons has roughly 125 free parking places while adjoining Wesley Street can hold about 30 cars. The Wheaton Public Library has about 125 free parking places and is conveniently located one block west of the Commons.
Is First-Aid available?
- Yes, a fully equipped E.M.T. is at the Commons and can quickly get to anyone on the course if needed. The Wheaton Police are also situated at major intersections along the course. The EMT will have ice, adhesive bandages, band-aids, etc.
I need a caffeine fix on Race Day. Where is the nearest Starbucks and Caribou Coffee?
- Starbucks and Caribou Coffee are 3 blocks and 6 blocks away respectively from the Commons in downtown Wheaton. Starbucks is at the corner of Main and Front Streets. Caribou is at the corner of Front and West Streets.
Is this just a church race for church members?
- No. This is a race for the entire running community which is hosted by a church. Last year, we had runners from 39 cities and 3 states! Anyone is welcome to participate in Run For The Stars. Participants and their families may want to pick up a brochure to enjoy the different activities of Summer Celebration, of which the Run For The Stars 5k is one event.
Where do the proceeds go?
- The race proceeds support the life-impacting Stars disability ministry at College Church by providing adult housing, job training skills, and camp scholarships for the disabled and their families. To learn more about this amazing disability ministry which is changing people’s lives, please visit:

Will the race be held even if it is raining?
- Yes, the race will be held rain or shine.
My tech shirt does not fit. Can I exchange it?
- Yes, if your tech shirt does not fit, we’ll gladly exchange it for the right size if the shirt has not been worn, washed, or altered in any way from the way it was first issued. We have kids medium, and adult small, medium, large, and extra large. These particular tech shirts run one size larger. The shirt is 100% polyester which does not shrink according to the websites we checked including ask.com and wiki.answers.com.
When is the registration deadline?
- Online registration for the 2010 Run For The Stars will close on June 9, 2010. Registrations will still be taken in person on June 10 and 11 at the College Church Commons. On race day (Saturday, June 12), registrations will be taken from 6am to 7:45am.
How do I confirm my entry to the Run For The Stars?

All on-line registrations will be confirmed via email. If you mailed your registration, you can email the race director at amsolis@sbcglobal.net to check if your registration was processed. You’ll get an immediate response (typically same day).
Where can I get my results for the Run For The Stars?
- Official results will be posted on the www.runforthestars.com website on the afternoon of June 12, 2010. Results from all previous years may also be obtained here.
Where can I buy more Run For The Stars tech shirts?
- On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (June 10, 11, 12), Run For The Stars tech shirts can be purchased for $12.00 each (check with photo ID or cash) until supplies last.
Where can I check my gear before the race?
- Gear check is provided for all participants, and is located in the Commons. Two attendants will watch over any gear.
Can I defer until next year or get a refund?
- There are no refunds. Up until race time, you may request to defer your registration until 2011 with a doctor's note to prove medical need.
