Course Description

The 5k starts at the corner of Washington Street and College Avenue, a well-known area just blocks from downtown Wheaton.  You’ll start the race in the shadow of two historic institutions – College Church (established in 1861 by Jonathan Blanchard, the first president of Wheaton College) and Wheaton College (established in 1860 by Jonathan Blanchard).

Mile 1:

The USATF (IL-07090-JW) and CARA certified course proceeds north of the church into a residential neighborhood.

Course Notables:

620 N. Washington St., Clyde Kilby, author, friend of J.R.R. Tolkein and C.S. Lewis, established Wade Collection, a major center for study of 20th century British scholarship.

339 E. Jefferson St., John Nelson, Grammy-award winning international music conductor and musical director of Soli Deo Gloria.

Mile 2:

The flat course winds east for several blocks and then back south for Mile 2 through the well-kept, tree-lined neighborhood.

Course Notables:

1119 Howard St, Dennis Hastert, former U.S. Speaker of House.

712 Howard St., Billy Graham, evangelist, spiritual advisor to many U.S. presidents, attended Wheaton College.

607 N. Howard St., Robert Ekvall, missionary to Chinese, diplomat.

Mile 3:

The course wraps around the picturesque campus of Wheaton College as the course proceeds west on College Avenue past the massive Billy Graham Center as you prepare for a challenging uphill finish.
